ISDN home with INFILL
NEW: Australia-wide dialup numbers
INTRODUCTION

What is ISDN?

ISDN transforms one copper circuit into 2 digital lines. Each with separate phone numbers. Each line gives a guaranteed connection speed of 64kbs and when combined delivers 128kbs, 24 hours a day. TSN is offering new accounts for you to take advantage of this technology...

SPEED

What speeds does ISDN home with INFILL offer?

ISDN home with INFILL connects at either 64kbps or 128kbps (depending on your account), with typical download speeds exceeding 10k for a 128kbps connection. The maximum download speed is 16k. Unlike ADSL your upload speed is also just as fast.

How does this compare to normal dial-up?

Even with a 56kbps modem, most users generally connect at about 45kbps or less, with download speeds in the 5-6k range (sometimes degenerating to as little as 1-2k). 64kbps ISDN speeds should be 2-3 times those of normal dial-up.

ADVANTAGES

What are the advantages of ISDN home with INFILL?

Apart from extra speed the most important feature is the fixed call cost of $16.50 per month for unlimited calls to your ISP. Providing your ISP is using a 01983 number. Naturally TSN has a 01983 numbers available Australia wide.

ISDN home with INFILL offers superior connection and download speeds to normal dial-up. The second phone line (provided with ISDN installation - see below) also ensures that using the Internet does not tie up your telephone, resulting in missed calls.

If your using the 128kbps connection speed, your connection can be set-up so that when you receive an incoming call your second line will drop out taking you back to a 64kbps connection. After you answer and complete your call you will automatically reconnect back to a 128kkbps connection.

REQUIREMENTS

New line installed by Telstra

Unfortunately Telstra have decided ISDN home is not available to business customers. TSN Internet accounts are still available to business customers.

To use ISDN with INFILL you must have a Telstra OnRamp Home Highway installed. This is an ISDN package provided by Telstra which includes a digital phone line and second phone number. OnRamp is not available in all areas: you can see if you are eligible for connection by visiting this page. More information about OnRamp is available from Telstra.

What computer operating systems are supported?

The suggested setup is a Pentium-equivalent PC running Windows 95, 98 or NT 4 (service pack 4) or greater. At this time, Linux is supported but Mac and FreeBSD are not.
